BLOG - Information for Radon Awareness

FAQ's: What is Radon and why do you need to get it mitigated from your home?

At Stuedemann Radon Resolutions, we are passionate about Radon safety. That's why our family is dedicated to making homes safer for Illinois families!

We receive many questions from homeowners, and would like to share some general Radon knowledge as you navigate this serious issue.

Radon is a Radioactive Gas that is found in rocks and soil. What's alarming is that Radon is colorless, odorless, and can only be detected with a Radon test. Often in homes around Illinois, an unhealthy level of Radon is detected. Radon is the #2 cause of lung cancer in the United States, second to cigarette smoking. Read THIS article from Cancer.gov for more information about how frequent exposure to Radon can cause lung cancer.

This map of Illinois shows the areas of higher risk. You can select your county HERE at the IEMA website to see what the average Radon levels are in homes near you.

Because of the seriousness of Radon gas, homeowners should test their homes for Radon gas. If the levels are too high (in Illinois, the acceptable limit is below 4.0 pC/L), they should follow up by installing a mitigation system. Mitigation, as described by the Illinois Administrative Code, is "the act of repairing or altering a building or building design for the purpose in whole or in part of reducing the concentration of radon in the indoor atmosphere."

That's where we come in. Stuedemann Radon Resolutions provides fast and friendly service to homeowners throughout Illinois. We eliminate the worries associated with Radon gas found in your home. When we install a Radon Mitigation System, we guarantee that your Radon levels will be below 4.0 pC/L for the lifetime of your home, or we will come back to diagnose and fix the issue.
